Te Wero Bridge design
The challenge
Auckland City Council looked for outstanding design innovation,
excellence and creativity.
Spanning over 100m of water, with a 40m section designed to open for boat traffic, the
bridge will sit almost at the mouth of the inner Viaduct Harbour, a place
world-renowned as home to two America's Cup regattas.

Te Wero Bridge will connect the city with the revitalised Wynyard
Quarter. Viaduct Harbour is well-known to international sailors, Aucklanders
(who passionately love their waterfront), New Zealanders and visitors from
around the world.
The bridge will complete a key waterfront connection between downtown
Auckland and Wynyard Quarter to the west.
An open competition to find the most inspiring concept designs
was launched; as well as an international search for professional
consultant teams to create this significant bridge.
A brief giving the vision for the bridge and background material about the
location was made available and included entry details and technical
requirements.
