Plans

Hauraki Gulf Island section - District Plan. This tells you how we control the effects of activities and development in the gulf islands including Waiheke. Lists proposed changes to the plan and how to make a submission.

Proposed Hauraki Gulf Islands section 2006 - District Plan. Provides information about Council's policies and strategies for managing the natural and physical resources of the Hauraki Gulf Islands for the future.

Essentially Waiheke is a strategy to manage residential development as a result of population growth on Waiheke Island. This long-term plan was adopted on 12 September 2000.

Recreation Waiheke - a plan to enable the Waiheke community to establish recreation facilities.

Projects on Waiheke

Waiheke Island library, service centre and Artworks project - Provides information about the redevelopment of the Waiheke Island library, service centre and Artworks project.

Matiatia land development - A design brief has been developed following consultation with residents and ratepayers on Waiheke Island to canvass their views about the future development of Matiatia.

Matiatia Wharf - The new Matiatia ferry terminal has undergone a $3.2 million upgrade.

Useful information

Liquor bans - a liquor ban will be in place at all beaches, parks and reserves on Waiheke Island.

Septic tanks are used on Waiheke to dispose of wastewater. Property owners have to have their septic tanks pumped out at least once every three years.  This content will tell you what you are obligated to do, when and how.
