Benefits of the proposal
Up to 24 buses travel along this route during each peak
period, carrying around 1000 passengers each morning and evening.
The proposed bus lanes would ensure a faster journey time
for passengers, including:
- a predicted 10 per cent travel time saving during the
morning peak
- a predicted 5 per cent travel time saving during the
afternoon peak.
By separating buses from other vehicles, the proposed bus
lanes would provide a more consistent journey time for passengers. This allows
bus operators to provide a reliable service regardless of the number of other
vehicles on the road.
Improving the reliability of bus services in the area would
make public transport a more attractive transport choice and reduce the number
of vehicles on the road. This can help future-proof the area for any growth in
travel along this route.
The proposal also includes
cycle advance boxes at key intersections. These allow cyclists to wait ahead of traffic, making them more visible
to motorists and increasing safety at intersections.
