Who's there:

In 2007, approximately 265,000 people came into or passed through Auckland's CBD on any given day. Of these:

  • 247,911 live in the Auckland region
  • 12,857 are tourists
  • 2,500 are non-Aucklanders  

Why they are there:

  • 27 per cent for business or work
  • 22 per cent for shopping
  • 44 per cent for recreation, leisure or dining
  • 5 per cent for education
  • 2 per cent because they live or are staying in the CBD.

Where they go

The most popular visitor destinations are

  • Viaduct Harbour
  • Old Town (east side of Queen Street, between Wellesley and Customs streets)
  • Westside (Sky Tower to Lower Albert St) & Aotea Quarter.
