A day in the life of Auckland's CBD
Who's there:
In 2007, approximately 265,000 people came into or passed
through Auckland's CBD on any given day. Of these:
- 247,911 live in the Auckland region
- 12,857 are tourists
- 2,500 are non-Aucklanders
Why they are there:
- 27 per cent for business or work
- 22 per cent for shopping
- 44 per cent for recreation, leisure or dining
- 5 per cent for education
- 2 per cent because they live or are staying in the CBD.
Where they go
The most popular visitor destinations are
- Viaduct Harbour
- Old Town (east side of Queen Street, between Wellesley
and Customs streets)
- Westside (Sky Tower to Lower Albert St) & Aotea Quarter.
