Blueprint: Growing Auckland's creative industries
Blueprint: Growing
Auckland's creative industries is an action
plan that aims to build on the vital contribution the creative sector makes to
Auckland. This plan views the creative sector through an economic lens and will
result in the council actively promoting and assisting Auckland city's creative
industries to greater national and international economic success.
We are
already a significant supporter of creative and artistic endeavour. With
Blueprint, we have a framework to focus our intervention to support
the growth of the creative sector - including opportunities for us to
facilitate and partner with central government and relevant agencies on creative
industry projects.
Blueprint, now in
implementation over the next 10 years, demonstrates our long-term
vision and commitment to grow the creative sector under the three main goals of
'raise profile', 'support enterprise' and 'create environment'.
Blueprint: Growing
Auckland's creative industries was approved by the Economic Development and
Sustainable business committee in December 2006.
Background to Blueprint
In 2005,
Auckland City launched Snapshot: Auckland's creative industries,
a research report aimed at better understanding the issues and opportunities
for Auckland's creative industries.
Snapshot
provided information and insights into the nature, motivations and aspirations
of over 400 stakeholders in Auckland's creative industries and established that
the sector is an important economic driver for the city with great growth
potential.
In response
to the Snapshot research, Blueprint: Growing Auckland's creative
industries was developed to provide a roadmap to achieve a shared
vision to grow Auckland's creative sector.
Blueprint includes three key goals that address what the sector said they
wanted from council in the Snapshot research. These platforms have a
series of strategies and actions that outline a way forward for us to support
the growth of the creative industries.
The action plan aligns with our other plans and strategies such as:
Blueprint was developed though consultation with a range of parties,
including input from elected representatives, council officers and the council's
creative industries advisory group.
We held a workshop for the creative industries on 1
June 2006 at the Auckland Town Hall Reception Lounge. The workshop was attended by a broad range of the creative sector, other
businesses, government agencies, and industry organisations.
Workshop presentation, notes from the discussion and a summary of the feedback for workshop
