Precinct areas
Introduction
Auckland's dedicated business areas make up a key component
of the city's economic fabric. They are productive places providing locations
for industry to locate away from residential populations and sufficient space
for land extensive industries, such as
- large scale or niche manufacturing
- distribution
- storage or construction.
These areas are located around employment
areas that can support more jobs, providing diverse employment opportunities for
residents within the city and region, and cater to increased movements of
workers, customers and goods that extra jobs will bring.
The development and refurbishment of business precincts
across Auckland city is aimed at enhancing the city's competitiveness as a
business location, making it attractive to high value-added firms and talented
workers.
In addition, current population growth projections suggest
that Auckland city will need to generate an additional 70,000 jobs by 2026. A
share of these jobs will be located in dedicated business areas such as Rosebank,
the Tamaki Innovation Precinct and Penrose.
The business precinct work is strategically linked to
Auckland City Council's growth management strategy, which identifies a series of
dedicated business areas that are able to provide for employment growth.
Auckland City's growth
management strategy
identifies areas of change where accelerated development will be facilitated via
new regulations and enhanced community infrastructure and utilities.
