Projects
Safer Auckland City are managing the following projects:
Park Safe - the car park building safety
accreditation scheme
Park Safe Accreditation encourages those responsible for undercover car parks to improve security and safety by
adopting new standards. It is thought the new standards will also reduce the opportunity for vehicle crime, including
theft of motor vehicles, break-ins and theft of personal property. Click here for more
information.
Crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED)
This programme covers the inner city, hot spot assessments throughout Auckland, the inclusion of CPTED principles into
the District Plan of Auckland City Council, and safety accreditation for car park buildings. CPTED recognises the need for
the integration of safety design principles into the planning, design, development, management and maintenance of the built
environment and public spaces of Auckland City.

Inner City Safety Strategy
The Inner City Safety Strategy has arisen from concerns raised by a variety of stakeholders that the inner city is 'unsafe'
and that it needs a comprehensive strategy to address perceived shortfalls. The strategy captures the contribution from a
variety of organisations including Safer Auckland City, Auckland City Council, Auckland City District Police, Maori Wardens
and Ngati Whatua. It is envisaged that over time groups and agencies will contribute to the aim and objectives of the Inner
City Safety Strategy.
The projects that are included in this strategy for which SAC is the lead worker, include all work relating to Alcohol
Accords, Gambling Accords, CCTV and hot spot assessments, and research related to homeless issues in the inner city.
An employers response to domestic violence
This project responds to women who suffer from domestic violence, but who are also part of the work force. 'An Employers
Response to Domestic Violence' offers employers the tools to respond appropriately to staff who are experiencing domestic
violence. Training is provided to employers so that assistance is given in identifying domestic violence indicators and making
appropriate referrals.
The DVFREE programme has been developed by the Domestic Violence Centre and Safer Auckland City (SAC). This project is now
co-ordinated by the Auckland Domestic Violence Centre.
Crime and safety profiles for Auckland
These projects collate the latest statistical information from census and police data. Safer Auckland City uses this
information to develop projects that respond to need.
There are two publications from this project. They are the Crime and Safety Profile and the Maori Crime and Safety Profile

Child crisis team
The lead worker for this project is the Auckland Domestic Violence Centre. This project works with children/young people who
have witnessed and or suffered from the effects of domestic violence. An emergency service is offered to children/young people
so that their safety can be assured while they await counselling. This project has been formally evaluated by Auckland
University and it was concluded that this programme is very effective.

between local licensees, the Police, District Licensing Agency and other relevant agencies. Click
