Hamburg - strategic alliance

Background

The Auckland-Hamburg memorandum of understanding was signed in 2007. This followed extensive research by council that identified Hamburg as the best match for a strategic alliance. The two cities have identified key areas of best practice learning and agree to support business growth in the areas of tourism, trade, education and services.

Some examples of programmes

Animation awards

Hamburg selected New Zealand as the profile country for their 2008 Animation Awards. Young animators from New Zealand submitted their work for a special 'host country' award.

Video conferences

Hamburg and Auckland have begun a series of video conferences for council employees and external experts to share knowledge on topics such as sustainability, climate change and transport.
