Ellerslie cycling and walking improvements
Auckland City Council is committed to improving walking and cycling facilities
across the city. A comprehensive plan for the Ellerslie area has been developed
and will be progressively implemented in the coming years. Community views on
the various proposals are sought as the plans are rolled out. Public
consultation was recently undertaken for proposed cycle lanes on Ladies Mile and
other roads, and following this feedback the designs were revised to retain more
parking. The revised designs below were approved by the local community board
and the Transport Committee in early 2008 and will be implemented towards the
end of the year.
Ladies Mile revised design
On road cycle lane on the uphill direction (western side) only and to
provide on-street parking on both sides of the road. It is proposed that a
complementary parallel route via Derby Downs Place and Lonsdale Road also be
investigated as part of this option.
Latest consultation: Proposed
cycling improvements on Great South Road
It is proposed
to build cycle lanes next to existing parking lanes, along both sides of Great
South Road, between Main Highwaendy and Marei Road. The proposed cycle lanes
will provide a safe space for cyclists on Great South Road and form part of the
regional cycle network, linking to other walking and cycling initiatives in the
surrounding area.
There will be no changes to on-street parking along this route and existing
traffic lanes will remain mostly unchanged. A plan showing the proposed
improvements can be seen below.

We will be
finalising the designs for the improvements over the next month and any feedback
received will be considered as part of this process.
