Project Greenlane

Project Greenlane was a programme to improve the local road network around Green Lane West and make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists.

In summary, Project Greenlane involved:

  • widening Great South Road in places to introduce new bus lanes, between Green Lane West and the Harp of Erin
  • upgrading the pedestrian environment by providing new footpaths, signalised pedestrian crossings, and pedestrian refuges
  • improving cycle facilities and safety by providing advance cycle boxes and off-road cycleways along Green Lane East and Green Lane West
  • streetscaping and landscaping to ensure these streets are safe and attractive for the people who use them.

Auckland City Council and Transit New Zealand tendered the upgrade of the Greenlane interchange and surrounding local road network together as one project.

This project was completed on 30 June, 2008.
