Kepa Road road works
Work to rebuild a section of Kepa Road, stabilise the
surrounding slip area and improve the capacity of the Orakei Road roundabout has
now finished.
All diversions and temporary traffic management measures
have been removed and motorists can travel in both directions along Kepa Road at
all times.
Kepa Road is built on unstable ground and the work was
required to make the road and surrounding area safer for all users.
During the work period, a section of road between Coates
Avenue and a point west of Nehu Street was dug up, new drainage was installed
and the foundation stabilised before a final layer of asphalt was laid.
Two slip areas alongside Kepa Road were stabilised using an
innovative soil nailing process. Around 300 soil-strengthening columns 8m long
were drilled and concreted to reduce slip movement under the road's edge.
Also the roundabout at the intersection of Kepa, Ngapipi
and Orakei roads was reduced in size to improve safety for motorists.
