Parking scheme review
Project overview
In light of imminent
international events and our objective of providing a world-class venue,
Auckland City Council and Eden Park have initiated a review of the current
residents' parking scheme. The review began in April 2007 and addresses permit
provisions and administration as well as enforcement activity and the area
covered by the residents' parking scheme.
Review
progress
Extensive international and local research has been undertaken,
as has broad consultation with the local residents and businesses. At the
beginning of the year, residents were invited to attend feedback sessions
regarding the current scheme. In October, a number of potential solutions were
presented to residents.
Auckland City Council and Eden Park are pleased to announce that the project is
six months ahead of schedule and that first changes to the scheme are now
effective. These include:
-
modifications to Annual permit
provisions
-
better Temporary permit provisions
-
administration of Temporary permits
by Eden Park
-
access to application forms online
-
comprehensive online information
about the scheme.
Over
the next two years we will work with other transport partners to deliver
holistic solutions that address the traffic management needs of your community
on event days.
Changes to the scheme area
Currently, we are legally required to place street signs placed
every 100 metres. Following anticipated legislative changes in mid 2009, we will set up an
Eden Park parking zone with signage that is less repetitive, more informative
and in line with the council's urban design strategy. At this time, we will
extend the area. Best practice principles suggest that the public remember an
area when it is bound by arterial routes and landmarks. The new area will
reflect this principle.
Extensive communication initiatives will be launched when the new area is
implemented to ensure that residents and patrons alike are fully aware of the
new zone. Following its implementation in mid 2009, a review of the new area will
be completed.
