Parking permit

This permit is for organisations that carry out regular work essential to the effective running of our city. It allows personnel to park close to the required location in order to carry out work.


Who qualifies for a Parking permit?Parking permit.

The following vehicles and activities are eligible for a Parking permit

Response services vehicles - maintaining and / or repairing Auckland City's energy, water and phone network.

Goods and services vehicles - where regular delivery or pick up of goods are necessary to keep businesses operating.

Construction vehicles -  maintaining or repairing Auckland City's roads, footpaths and buildings.

Exceptional service providers - delivering or collecting medical supplies or providing medical advice or treatment to people in their homes.

Inspection staff vehicles  - investigating noise, graffiti, animal or environment complaints. Security firms carrying out investigations from calls received. Bio security inspections.

Auckland city council maintenance staff vehicles - maintaining or repairing plant life, streetscapes and any other council assets.

Guidelines

Permit use

The parking permit enables you to park in "P" restrictions or pay and display on street parking areas, excluding goods service vehicles only loading zones and loading zones, while carrying out activities approved on application.

Terms and conditions

  • A valid permit must be displayed in the sleeve provided on the inside of the windscreen of the vehicle or next to the registration plate on a trailer and be clearly visible.
  • The permit is valid only for those days indicated up to the date of expiry on the permit.
  • The permit is only valid when the vehicle is being used for loading/unloading goods or carrying out services approved on application.
  • Each permit is issued against the registration number of the vehicle.
  • Each permit covers one vehicle – trailers need an additional permit.
  • A permit is valid for only one specified vehicle. It is not valid for a replacement vehicle.
  • A copy of a valid permit displayed on the windscreen or next to the registration plate on a trailer will be deemed invalid.
  • Vehicles not clearly displaying a valid permit will be issued with an infringement notice and may be towed away.
  • The permit does not apply where other restrictions apply such as an event activity.
  • The permit does not apply to prohibited parking areas such as broken yellow lines, clearways or bus stops.
  • The permit must not be used for displaying advertising or promotional signs.
  • Any abuse of the terms and conditions of this permit may result in future applications being refused.
  • Auckland City Council reserves the right to revoke this permit at any time without reason.
  • The permit does not apply to loading zones, if you park in a loading zone you must comply with the signage

Processing your application

Once we have received the completed application form with all supporting documentation, it will take approximately three to five working days, depending on how you submit your application. Delivering your application in person will require less time, posting or faxing will require more time.

What you need to provide

  • Completed application form
  • Letterhead or Business card as proof of trading name
  • GST number (complete on application form)
  • Cheque (If you are paying by this method)

What does it cost?

The permit is only available in timeframes of 12 months, 6 Months and 3 months.

Easy ways to pay

  • Post a cheque with your application – the cheque will be returned in cases where the permit application is declined (Please make cheques payable to Auckland City Council)
  • In person at the Civic Administration Building, central Auckland (Cash, Eftpos, Visa, MasterCard, Diners club and American express accepted, Cheque)

Note: When submitting your application, you can choose to send a cheque with your application or, once the permit is approved, you can pay using the payment methods above. Cheques sent with application forms will only be receipted if the permit is approved.

  • Visit us at Civic Administration Building, Auckland central.
  • Fax to +64 9 307 7209, attention Parking Permits.
  • Post to Auckland City Council, Parking Services, Private Bag 92516, Wellesley St, Auckland 1141

Note: until you have received and displayed a valid parking permit, you will need to comply with all parking restrictions.

Replacing an existing permit

Replacement due to lost/damaged permit or vehicle change requires you to visit us at at the Civic Administration Building, Central Auckland to obtain a replacement.

Please ensure you consider the remaining days left on your permit as the standard processing time still applies. 

Receiving your parking permit

You will have an option to either pick up your permit or have your permit posted, which ever is more convenient.
