Parking restriction 'P' signs
Parking restrictions for all blue and white signs (eg 'P5', 'P10' etc)
indicate the length of parking time allowed in a certain area, for example, P30
means you can park there for up to 30 minutes.
Parking restrictions apply between the days and hours stated on the sign, for
example, Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm. The signs should be carefully read to
determine the times and hours of operation applicable.
If there are no days or hours of application stated on these signs, these
signs automatically apply Monday to Sunday, 8am to 6pm. These restrictions don't
usually apply on public holidays, unless otherwise stated on the sign.

Hours of operation
Use of pay and display machines
If you are parked in a pay and display area, you must pay for parking time during the
pay and display's hours of operation
You can not return to continually purchase receipts. You must move your
vehicle after the maximum authorised time even if the pay and display is faulty.
If the maximum time allowed (shown on the pay and display
exterior) is exceeded, an infringement notice may be issued.
Always check signage in the area you are parked, and
the details on the pay and display machine so that you are aware of any restrictions
that apply.
Motorcycles in pay and display areas
If you park your motorcycle in a pay and display area, you will still need to
buy a receipt for the time the vehicle is parked and the vehicle must be removed
after that time has finished. Free parking is available in all Auckland City
Council parking buildings for motorcycles.
Parking when the pay and display machine is broken
If a pay and display machine is faulty:
- where a receipt is needed to park (eg pay and display
areas), you need to find an alternative machine to get a parking receipt from - or
move your vehicle to a different parking space with a functioning machine
- you can park in the space up to the maximum time allowed only, you must
move your vehicle after this time even if the pay and display machine is faulty
or you pay an additional parking fee.
- parking without a valid receipt can incur an infringement fine.
