Changes to pay and display in the Viaduct area
We are working
hard to make it easier for people to live, visit and do business in the city.
As part of our regular review
programme for pay and display parking and after undertaking research, we have identified that it has been harder to find
on-street parking in the Viaduct area in recent years, especially after 6pm when
parking becomes free of charge.
To alleviate the problem we are making some
changes, which are expected to be in place by the end of August.
In a six-month trial on Lower Hobson Street (under the
overpass), Customs Street West (from Lower Hobson Street to Market Place),
Pakenham Street East (between Market Place and Sturdee Street), and Market
Place, the council will be:
-
extending on-street pay and display hours from 8am to 6pm, to 8am
to 10pm, Monday to Sunday. There will be no time restrictions and charges will
be $2 per hour.
-
introducing graduated
tariffs between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Sunday, where the price per hour goes
up for each hour that you stay, up to a maximum of three hours.
The council would like to hear your feedback on the changes.
The following
table will demonstrate the graduated tariff rates for each hour of parking:
