Walk New Zealand
Walk NZ encourages walking and healthier living in our
communities by focusing on challenging year 5, year 6 and intermediate school students to walk the
length of New Zealand by counting their steps daily and following their progress on a
map.
Walk NZ provides all participants on the programme with a pedometer,
allowing them to accurately count the number of steps they take each day and a
work book where they can record their progress. It also has statistics and
information, challenges and tips for smart walkers.
Walk NZ is a fantastic programme to start the year with.
For children walking on average 10,000 steps a day (8kms) it will take 279 days
to virtually walk from Cape Reianga to Bluff. Charting their own progress
incorporates simple maths and mapping skills. Getting kids active makes them
healthy, strong and more ready to learn in class.
We are passionate about educating and promoting pedestrian
road safety especially among children. If you are a student, parent or teacher
and are passionate about that too, please contact
us.
