Background
Auckland City is working with the NZ Transport Agency to progress the
completion of the strategic road network, particularly the western ring route.
The western ring route means completing state highways 16, 18 and 20,
providing a vital alternative to State Highway 1, between Albany and Manukau
City.
Completing the western ring route and will reduce traffic through the central
motorway network and on local roads, improve access to the motorway network for
Auckland's western suburbs and mean quicker travel across the region.
NZ Transport Agency is currently working on a number of major projects to complete the
western ring route. Initiatives and timing information can be viewed on the
NZ Transport Agency website.
