Goal 6 - City aesthetics reflect Auckland City's uniqueness and identity

Visually express Auckland's unique identity (based on Te Ao Maori, our Pacific roots, our natural and cultural heritage, and cultural diversity) through public art, and the design of its buildings, open spaces and streetscapes.

Key Initiative: Develop protocols and processes for integration of an arts component in the development of public spaces and facilities.

1.	Identity through public art work. Encourage the expansion and development of Auckland's unique identity though art in public buildings, open spaces and streetscapes.

1.1	Expand Public Art Works Policy to include wider isthmus and Hauraki Gulf Islands.
1.2	Implement Public Art Works Policy.
1.3	Develop strategy for art works in Civic buildings and public facilities.
1.4	Look at opportunities for encouraging philanthropy within the context of the public art works policy eg. gifts, bequests.

2.	Art integrated throughout. Encourage the integration of arts and culture into the urban fabric of the City reflecting Auckland's unique place in the Pacific.

2.1	Develop protocols and processes to promote the inclusion of art work and an arts component in civic projects relating to all Council functions (eg. libraries, open spaces, streetscapes, roading, utilities) and enable artists to collaborate with other planning and design professionals.
2.2	Identify opportunities for the aims of the Arts Agenda to be included in the development or review of Council planning tools eg. Liveable Communities Plan, urban design code.
2.3	Encourage private developers and businesses to include an arts component in the design of their developments.

3.	Special Features Celebrated. Recognise and celebrate Auckland's special heritage and cultural features.

3.1	Implement Interpretation Strategy, and continue to develop and promote Auckland's special heritage and cultural features.
