Water, stormwater and wastewater services, together with
public toilets, cemeteries and crematoria are crucial to our community's health.
Auckland City ensures these services are provided and has a
statutory obligation to prepare a water and sanitary services assessment by June
2005. This assessment looks at the impact of these services on public health and
the environment.
The water and sanitary services assessment for the Hauraki Gulf Islands was
undertaken in 2004. The assessment was included in the Draft Focus on the Future
2004-2014, which went through consultation in May 2004.

A two-stage assessment has been carried out.
The first stage completed in June 2005 was a full
assessment for water, public toilets, cemeteries and crematoria, and a partial
assessment for wastewater and stormwater as these aspects were the subject of a
$23 million Integrated Catchment Study completed later in 2005.
The water and sanitary services assessment stage 2 is
available in
volume three of the
2006-2016 long-term plan.
The Drainage Strategic Review 2006 is a background document providing more
detailed information on which the wastewater and stormwater stage 2 water and
sanitary services assessment is based. This document is also attached for
