Creating a world-class CBD waterfront to be proud of
Our waterfront has the potential to be a beautiful destination that is rich
in public open spaces and activities, supports commercially successful and
innovative businesses and celebrates the city's sea-faring culture.
Auckland City Council is helping to realise the vision for the entire
waterfront by securing key pieces of land for the city. This is part of creating
high-quality public spaces for locals and visitors in the future.
To ensure there is a high-quality, coordinated development approach Auckland
City Council are securing land along the waterfront. To date, this approach has
included purchasing Westhaven Marina in 2004, facilitating the redevelopment of
the Britomart Precinct and funding the development of the Vector Arena.
To enable the development of key CBD waterfront areas, Auckland City Council
has acquired the following pieces of land and wharves:
- Harbour Park
- Westhaven Drive
- Public spaces on Wynyard Quarter
- Halsey Street Wharf (purchased from Auckland Regional Holdings)
- Hobson Wharf and the Maritime Museum
- Teal Park
