This section became Operative in part on Wednesday, 19 January 2005. The parts of the plan which are not
currently operative are motorway
designation 283 and variation 29, which relates to the scheduling of the Fitzroy Hotel.

On 16 December 2004 the Auckland City Council passed a
resolution which approved in part the Auckland City District Plan - Central area
section. This approval was with the consent of the Environment Court, also
granted on 16 December 2004.
As a result of the Environment Court's approval and the
council's resolution, the plan became operative in part at noon on Wednesday, 19
January 2005.
The central area covers the part of downtown Auckland bounded
by the motorway network, Stanley Street in Parnell and the waterfront.
