This section became Operative in part on Wednesday, 19 January 2005. The part of the plan which is not currently operative is motorway designation 283.

    On 16 December 2004 the Auckland City Council passed a resolution which approved in part the Auckland City District Plan - Central area section. This approval was with the consent of the Environment Court, also granted on 16 December 2004.

    As a result of the Environment Court's approval and the council's resolution, the plan became operative in part at noon on Wednesday, 19 January 2005.

    The central area covers the part of downtown Auckland bounded by the motorway network, Stanley Street in Parnell and the waterfront.
