Introduction
A centre plan is part of the district plan. It enables
business and community groups to participate in the development of an individual
planning approach for their centre. The centre plan will be developed in
response to community initiatives and concerns.
A centre plan usually applies to business zoned land, but can
apply to other land where it is considered to be a vital part of the centre.
The centre plan integrates all aspects of the town centre. It
can identify:
- the things that make the town centre a pleasant business environment;
- where special planning controls may apply;
- improvements for facilities for pedestrians and cyclists and for motorised
vehicles;
- improvements for those using public transport and taxis; and
- street and landscaping improvements.
The centre plan is closely related to the
Mainstreet
programme which is based around local business owner's and operators working
together to promote a vibrant, profitable town centre.
A centre plan is included in the district plan by way of a
notified plan change.
Areas for which centre plans have been developed previously
include Ponsonby, Parnell, Otahuhu and
Onehunga. Each centre plan is different to all
others as each is developed specifically for the local area to cover different
local issues and considerations.
