Auckland City's role
Auckland City has a number of roles in helping to make the city a better
place for children and their families.
Facilitator and networker
The council will help children and families deal with its processes and
structures, and will provide opportunities for children and their guardians to
socialise together and to meet with other families (for example, library story
times).
Advocator and supporter
The council will represent children and their views and work with children to
get results. For example, working with central government agencies and other
service providers to get community projects off the ground and supporting
community networks.
Funder
The council contributes funding to events and facilities and makes funding
available for projects and activities through things like community group
assistance funding, community leases and community board small local improvement
projects (Slips).
Provider
By providing recreation and community centres, community advisors and
community notice boards, the council will help provide the services, facilities,
information and advice children and families need (and will encourage others to
as well).
Planner and regulator
Auckland City contributes to providing a safe, clean and healthy environment
for all by planning for community facilities and services, issuing resource
consents, handling dog registrations and more.
Monitor
Each year the council will ensure the goals and objectives of the child and
family policy are carried out by developing and monitoring an annual action plan
of projects.
