Safer Auckland City
Safer Auckland City (SAC) is a team within Auckland City Council that works with specific community partners and deals with crime reduction
and community safety. SAC is a partnership between Auckland City, the Auckland City District Police, the Crime Prevention Unit
(Ministry of Justice) and Ngati Whatua o Orakei. SAC administers many aspects of the New Zealand Governments Crime Reduction
Strategy. It's work covers the following areas:
- community safety (which includes projects associated with alcohol and responsible practices, homelessness action plan, and an
employers response to domestic violence)
- environmental safety (including crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) assessments, car park building safety
accreditation and the formation of pedestrian lighting standards)
- reduction in dwelling burglary
- reduction in vehicle theft.
Vision of Safer Auckland City:
"Auckland: a safe, secure and crime-free city where all peoples in the community are valued and respected."
"He taone pai a Akarana, horekau e whakamaua I te hara mo nga tangata katoa whanui e whakateitei ana I o ratou tikanga noho."
The City Safe plan has been developed by Safer Auckland City, who will also be responsible for it's management and monitoring.
