Auckland City's Long-term Plan 2006–2016 is our second long-term council community plan (LTCCP).

Auckland City, like all other New Zealand councils, must produce a 10-year plan every three years showing what the council does and how it will work towards achieving what the community wants for the future (called community outcomes). As well as meeting Auckland City’s requirements under the Local Government Act 2002, this long-term plan enables the council to prioritise projects that will help achieve future goals for the city.

What is in Auckland City's Long-term Plan 2006–2016?

Copies of all the sections of the Auckland City's Long-term Plan 2006–2016 document are available in PDF.

Auckland City's Long-term Plan 2006–2016 is published in three volumes:

  • Volume 1 - Our vision and strategy
  • Volume 2 - Our business in depth
  • Volume 3 - Our policies and statements.

Volume 1: Our vision and strategy

This volume outlines Auckland City's long-term vision, which we developed with community input. It explains where we are heading and the key initiatives we will undertake in the next 10 years as the first steps towards how the city will look and feel in 30 years and beyond.

Volume 2: Our business in depth

In this volume you'll find detailed information on what Auckland City does and how it plans to contribute to achieving the community outcomes. These details are given under each of the council's four areas of business, known as groups of outputs.

Here you can read about our plans for the next 10 years, how much we expect them to cost and how we'll measure our progress. This includes information on how we'll finance planned capital and operating expenditure.

Volume 3: Our policies and statements

This volume contains Auckland City's funding, financial and rating policies and statements, and a policy on significance. These are required under the Local Government Act and guide how we run our business.

This volume also contains our water and sanitary services assessment. We carried out the first stage of this assessment covering the isthmus in 2004–2005 (the gulf islands section was completed in 2003-2004) and we consulted on the second stage in the draft long-term plan.

Note: as a requirement of the Local Government Act 2002, this long-term plan has been audited by Audit New Zealand.
