Equal Employment Opportunities Policy
The Local Government Amendment Act requires Local Government to be a
"good employer" and to develop an Equal Employment Opportunities
Programme.
All employees will receive equal consideration and encouragement in terms of
recruitment, selection, transfer, training, career development and promotion in
order to pursue their careers without the opportunities being reduced by other
factors which are irrelevant.
Therefore no employee or potential employee will be disadvantaged by reason
of sex, marital status, religious belief, ethical belief, colour, race, ethnic
or national origins, disability, age, political opinion, employment status,
family status, or sexual orientation as defined under the Human Rights Act 1993.
All appointments will be made on merit, ensuring the best person for the job is
appointed.
Auckland City Council will encourage and promote all staff to fully realise their
professional and personal potential in the organisation. In addition, Auckland City
Council will act in a manner consistent with the Treaty of Waitangi in the
development and implementation of its Equal Employment Opportunities Plan.
The abilities of all employees will be recognised through initiatives which
recognise the employment requirements of women, the cultural aims and
aspirations of ethnic or minority groups and the recognition of the employment
requirements of people with disabilities.
The Human Resources Strategic Plan promotes the development of an
organisational culture that acknowledges the personal, family and work
requirements of individuals while expecting high performance; the need for the
organisation to have a staff mix which is representative of the customers we
serve; enhance the status quo to provide support groups and networks and
introduce family friendly practices.
