Liquor ban requests
Auckland
City Council can establish liquor ban areas either permanently or for a
special event.
Liquor
bans do not cover private property or premises that are licensed for the sale
and supply of liquor (including any licensed outdoor areas attached to licensed
premises) and alcohol may be carried through liquor ban areas to and from
private homes and licensed premises as long as it is promptly taken from the ban
areas.
The
current submission period closed on 31 March 2010. All requests will be
reviewed in April 2010. A report summarising the requests and outlining options
will be presented to the City Development Committee in June 2010.
Following
a request, the council will look at the potential need for a liquor ban in the
specified area. This can include correspondence and
input directly from communities, analysis of statistics, input from key
stakeholders indicating that an area should be considered for a liquor ban (e.g.
Police, council staff) and the current and future council plans for the area.
Each request will
also be analysed against the criteria in the liquor bylaw. If a liquor ban is
likely to resolve problems in the area, officers will report to the relevant
council committee seeking its approval for the ban and a timetable for
implementation.
