Liveable communities
Auckland city grows by approximately 20 people every day, of which
approximately 50 to 60 percent is natural increase. On current census
statistics, Auckland city could gain over 140,000, a population approximately
the size of the city of Wellington, over the next 18 years.
Auckland City Council has several plans and policies that take advantage of
growth and the change it brings while still preserving the character and
environment Aucklanders value.
The Growth Management
Strategy outlines where, when and how Auckland will grow and the strategies
that will ensure this happens in a managed and effective way.
Liveable community plans deliver many of the objectives of the Growth
Management Strategy. Currently there are liveable community plans for Avondale,
Glen Innes, Panmure, Ellerslie, Otahuhu and Newmarket. These plans generate
projects to support the growth of these communities. The projects are then fed
into the LTCCP and Council's Annual Plan, to be implemented as and when required
by their communities.
