Introduction
State of the City Report 2010
In Auckland, we take great pride and enjoyment in our city's beaches, parks
and heritage sites. However, our environment is under constant pressure from
both natural and man-made pressures, such as a growing population.
In order to maintain and improve the quality of our environment, we need to
understand what these pressures are. The information collected in Auckland
City's state of environment reports allows us to do this. The report itself, in
essence is a score card, which helps us to see where action is needed to protect
our environment.
Auckland City Council produces its state of environment report, called Our
Changing Environment, every five years with an update in the interim years.
This year, we have combined this report with a look at the economic, social and cultural aspects of Auckland city. The State of the City report uses data from a wide range of sources to give a statistical portrait of Auckland city, displaying its strengths and weaknesses, as well as areas of progress and reasons for concern.
