Glossary of terms

Biodiversity the variability among living organisms from all sources. This includes diversity within species, between species and of ecosystems
Environmental Management System a management tool which enables an organisation to identify, manage and achieve environmental performance improvements to reduce the adverse effects of their operations on the environment
Levels of service describes the types of experiences available within a single park or a group of parks
Low impact design to design and undertake land development in a way that minimises and mitigates the adverse effects of development on the environment
Management plan establishes the desired mix of uses and values for a single park, or a group of parks, and sets in place policy to guide day to day management
Open space network plan a local area plan applying and testing the principles of the council's open space framework
Ped shed analysis a mapping technique that calculates the population catchment within a defined distance, such as a five or eight minutes walk, from an activity, transport stop or node
Standards of provision define standards by which we want to provide open space-relating to quality, capacity and accessibility
Universal design the design of products and the built environment to be usable by as many people as possible regardless of age, ability or circumstance
