Managing parking and congestion
On-street parking
Free, uncontrolled on-street parking has been progressively reduced in the
central area since 1999. Generally, all on-street parking in the central area is
controlled by pay and display or time restrictions, except for special user
zones such as loading and bus stops.
Priority for the use of central area kerbside space will be given in
decreasing order to: the movement of pedestrians and commercial vehicles;
passenger transport stops; parking for disabled persons; servicing of businesses
and short term parking to the exclusion of long stay parking between 7:00am and
6:00pm.
