Rosebank Business Centre Report

Impressions of the Rosebank Area

The Rosebank area is heavily dominated by manufacturing and wholesale businesses that occupy a large portion of the Rosebank peninsular. A number of respondents mentioned the natural environment as a location advantage, including 'nice' views from business premises either (a) facing the Whau River to the South West or (b) facing the Motu Manawa – Pollen Island Marine Reserve to the North East. In particular Rosebank Road is considered too congested and difficult to cross or get on to or off from.

Common criticisms of the Rosebank area include the related congestion that arises from Rosebank Road being an arterial road for traffic from the North Western motorway to Avondale, Mount Albert and Blockhouse Bay and the South Western suburbs. Peak periods of traffic congestion occur during the morning peak hour from 7:30am until 9am and the afternoon peak hour 3pm until 5:30pm. In addition to peak hour traffic there are vehicles who are dropping off children to Avondale College and Avondale Intermediate each morning from 8am and picking them up in the afternoon from 3pm. In particular, according to some respondents these congestion issues could lead to a fatal incident. Transport safety was a key concern for many respondents. Some representative quotes are on the following page along with pictures of the Rosebank area.

"Getting out of Harbourside Business Park is tricky and will no doubt soon produce its first big accident."

"Rosebank Road is far too congested and dangerous for anyone trying to cross let alone children. It should have no parking times in the morning and evening and try to make it 2 lanes each way."
