Maungakiekie Community Board
The Maungakiekie community is in the Tamaki/Maungakiekie Ward, the largest ward in Auckland City with a population
of 79,000. The Tamaki/Maungakiekie Ward includes the suburbs of Glen Innes, Panmure, Ellerslie, Penrose, Mt. Wellington,
Royal Oak, Onehunga, Oranga and Te Papapa. It also includes Auckland’s south eastern industrial area, the country’s
largest centre of industry and manufacturing.
Maungakiekie community is the western area of the Tamaki/Maungakiekie Ward. Its southern boundary is the Manukau Harbour,
on which the Onehunga port is situated. Onehunga, the community’s main business and shopping centre, is one of the oldest
areas of Auckland and is well endowed with heritage buildings. Other important local shopping centres are at Royal Oak
and Ellerslie.
Onehunga has a community house as well as the Sir William Jordan Recreation Centre and the Onehunga War Memorial Pool
at Jellicoe Park. There is a library at Onehunga.
