Waiheke Community Board
Approximately 7,500 people live permanently on Waiheke Island. But in the summer, the population can swell to more
than 30,000 as visitors flock there to enjoy the open space, sandy beaches and boutique vineyards. Waiheke is the second
largest islands in the Hauraki Gulf. Being only 17km from Auckland, it is home to an increasing number of people who
commute daily by ferry to work in the central city.
The Auckland City Service Centre at Ostend provides Council services and information, The community library, theatre
and art gallery at Artworks in Oneroa and the Onetangi Sports Park are major Auckland City supported community facilities.

Great Barrier Community Board
Great Barrier Island (Aotea) is 90km from central Auckland, to the north-east in the outer Hauraki Gulf.
Accessible by sea or air, it has a permanent population of around 1,200.
Renowned for its remoteness and rugged beauty, the island is an increasingly popular holiday destination for
Aucklanders. It also has a strong community spirit, focused on communities at Port Fitzroy, Whangaparapara,
Claris, Okupu and Tryphena.
The Auckland City service centre at Claris provides council services and information. It also houses a small
public library.
