MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE MAUNGAKIEKIE COMMUNITY BOARD

    That an item of extraordinary business regarding the report 'Maungakiekie Celebration Lights' be considered at agenda item 16, since the urgency of this item was only recently recognised and an early decision is required if the project is to proceed to meet manufacturer's deadlines.

  4. Top PUBLIC FORUM

    4.1. ELLERSLIE SANTA PARADE AND STREET PARTY - CHRISTINE FOLEY, ELLERSLIE BUSINESS ASSOCIATION

    Christine Foley, representing the Ellerslie Business Association and the Ellerslie Community Arts Trust, addressed the Board in support of her Local Event Funding application for costs associated with the Ellerslie Santa Parade and Street Party. This application was considered under item 10.1 on this agenda.

    4.2. PUBLIC SAFETY AND POLICING ISSUES ON ONE TREE HILL - MICHAEL AYRTON, SENIOR SERGEANT WENDY SPILLER AND GORDON CAMPBELL

    Michael Ayrton, Director, Cornwall Park Trust Board, Senior Sergeant Wendy Spiller, Newmarket Police, and Gordon Campbell, Community Constable, Epsom Police, addressed the Board regarding public safety and policing issues on the summit of One Tree Hill. A report on this issue was discussed under item 5 on this agenda.

    That Michael Ayrton, Director, Cornwall Park Trust Board, Senior Sergeant Wendy Spiller, Newmarket Police, and Gordon Campbell, Community Constable, Epsom Police, be thanked for their presentation to the Maungakiekie Community Board regarding public safety and policing issues on the summit of One Tree Hill.

    4.3. NANDAN (AN INDIAN BENGALI ASSOCIATION) - BROJO KARMAKAR

    Brojo Karmakar, representing Nandan (An Indian Bengali Association), addressed the Board in support of his application for a Discretionary Funding grant for costs associated with the purchase of lights and props for a three-day "Festival of Lights" event. This application was considered under item 9.1 on this agenda.

  5. Top CCTV AND STRENGTHENED POLICING OPTION - SUMMIT OF ONE TREE HILL

    An overview map of the Maungakiekie/One Tree Hill site, indicating the proposed gates sites, was tabled at the meeting.

    1. That the Maungakiekie Community Board recommends to the Arts, Culture and Recreation Committee that approval be given to closing the road to vehicular traffic to the summit of Maungakiekie/One Tree Hill at night between 11:00pm and 7:00am in order to stop the increasing level of antisocial behaviour by the preferred choice of option B as outlined in the report.
    2. That when required for special events, the summit road opening time for Maungakiekie/One Tree Hill be extended and publicly notified.
    3. That the level of security patrolling of Maungakiekie/One Tree Hill Domain continue at the current level.
    4. That the Parks Adviser, Volcanic Landscapes, be thanked for his attendance.

  7. Top GREAT SOUTH ROAD CYCLING IMPROVEMENTS

    That the Maungakiekie Community Board endorse the implementation of the proposed Great South Road cycle lanes between Marei Street and Main Highway as the final component of the Ellerslie Walking and Cycling Area Plan.

  8. Top DOG ACCESS TO BEACHES

    That the Maungakiekie Community Board express its support of the status quo with regards to dog access to beaches, and that this issue be referred back to the Maungakiekie Community Board for its comment once beaches have been established in the ward.

    3. That the Maungakiekie Community Board grants $3000 from its 2008/2009 Local Events Funding budget to the Oranga Festival Committee for costs associated with the annual Oranga Festival.
    4. That the Maungakiekie Community Board grants $4000 from its 2008/2009 Local Events Funding budget to the Onehunga Festival Committee for costs associated with the annual Onehunga Festival.

That the Maungakiekie Community Board approves funding from its 2008/2009 SLIPs budget to cover the monthly costs associated with the storage of ceramic tiles for use in the Onehunga Bay Reserve Queen St tile artwork relocation SLIPs project until such a time as alternative storage arrangements are made.
    3. That the Chairperson write a letter to Stuart Tucker, Manukau Harbour Crossing Alliance, asking him to assume the cost of transport and storage of ceramic tiles for use in the Onehunga Bay Reserve Queen Street tile artwork relocation SLIPs project.

    1. That the memorandum of the SLIPs Portfolio Leader, dated 18 September 2008, be received.
    2. That the Maungakiekie Community Board delegates the authority to the Chairperson, in consultation with all Board members, to investigate other options regarding the implementation of the Maungakiekie Celebration Lights SLIPs project, and that the Chairperson report those options to the October 2008 Board meeting.
