Ward boundaries
Every six years, the council is required to review how the population of
wards are represented on council. The review looks at the number of councillors,
wards, boundaries and community boards.
The review ensures that as the city grows and changes, the ratio of residents
per councillor remains fair and equal. The last representation review was
undertaken by council in 2006 and was referred to the Local Government
Commission for a final determination.
The Local Government Commission released their determination on 10 April 2007
and a copy of this is available on their
website.
There remain seven wards and ten communities for the election of members at the
2007 triennial elections.
The key changes made
to the ward and community boundaries (used at the 2004 triennial elections) are:
- Eden-Albert Ward (and Community) is enlarged to include the
Eden Terrace area (south of the Southern Motorway)
- Eden-Albert Ward (and Community) is enlarged to include the
Epsom South area (south of Balmoral Road, west of Manukau Road)
- Tamaki-Maungakiekie Ward (and Maungakiekie Community)
is enlarged to include the One Tree Hill area (south of Greenlane West, east of
Manukau Road)
- Hobson Ward (and Community) is reduced by the above
corresponding areas.

The Hauraki Gulf islands Ward, which includes Waiheke and Great Barrier
islands, also has its own community boards but these are not mapped below.
