MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE AUCKLAND CITY YOUTH COUNCIL

  4. Top PUBLIC FORUM

    4.1. ZUBIN SENGUPTA - COMMUNITY ACTION ON YOUTH AND DRUGS PROJECT (CAYAD)

    Zubin Sengupta was in attendance on behalf of the Community Action on Youth and Drugs Project (CAYAD) and addressed the Auckland City Youth Council on the research currently being undertaken by CAYAD on alcohol accessibility amongst young people in tertiary institutes. Zubin advised that CAYAD is focusing particularly this project on Orientation Week 2008, noting that CAYAD are working with alternative sponsors so that alcohol branding is supplemented by other funding during this event. Zubin advised on initiatives that CAYAD wish to implement during Orientation Week 2008 such as 'alcohol free chillout zones' and sausage sizzles, and asked Auckland City Youth Council members for their support in regards to this project.

    4.2. ERICA LAW - ISTHMUS DISTRICT PLAN

    This item was withdrawn.

    4.3. ZACHARY CASTLES - REFORMING YOUTH AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT IN AUCKLAND CITY

    Zachary Castles was in attendance and addressed the Auckland City Youth Council on his proposed ideas for the restructuring of Auckland City Youth Council. Zachary advised on his concerns with the current structure of Auckland City Youth Council, and suggested that Auckland City Youth Council consider reforming its current organisation to ensure that it has a strengthened relationship with council going forward into the new term of council.

    That Zachary Castles be thanked for his presentation concerning the reformation of Auckland City Youth Council.

    That the report and resolutions from the Council meeting held 1 November 2007, be received.

  7. Top COMMUNITY BOARD YOUTH SPOKESPEOPLE

    The Chairperson invited Board Member Randall, Board Member Graham and Board Member Simpson to introduce themselves to Auckland City Youth Council. The Chairperson then introduced herself and the Auckland City Youth Council Deputy Chairperson to the Board Members present at the meeting.

  8. Top AUCKLAND CITY YOUTH COUNCIL SCHEDULE OF MEETINGS: 2007-2010

    That the proposed schedule of the Auckland City Youth Council meetings from 2008 to 2010 be approved.

  9. Top COMMUNITY ADVISORS UPDATE

    The Community advisor advised the Auckland City Youth Council on the upcoming End of Year break up for 2007, to be held in partnership with Manukau City Council, North Shore City Youth Council, Rodney City Council and Franklin Youth Council.

  10. Top CHAIRPERSONS UPDATE

    B. That Linda Dunbar, Community youth advisor, and Melanie Turner, Democracy coordinator, be thanked for their work with the Auckland City Youth Council during 2007.

  11. Top MEMBERS UPDATES'

    Further verbal updates were received as follows:

    1. Seraphina Kim

      Seraphina spoke to her tabled submission on her attendance at a recent church sports camp, and advised on her attendance at the Maori and Pacific Health Caucus meeting. Seraphina thanked Auckland City Youth Council members for their work throughout 2007, particularly thanking Olivia Boddy for her effort with the ANZAC Day Project and the Chairperson for all her work during the year.

    2. Jayran Mansouri

      Extended her thanks to the Community youth advisor for her work with Auckland City Youth Council in 2007.

    3. Harriet Spratt

      Advised that she has recently gained her restricted drivers license. Harriet advised that she has completed her school exams and thanked Auckland City Youth Council members for their support during 2007.

    4. Natasha Sarkar

      Advised that she has had a busy second semester at university. Natasha extended her thanks to the Chairperson for her conscientious effort with Auckland City Youth Council throughout 2007.
