    That the matter of the Vaana Peace Mural Restoration Project be discussed at the end of the open section of the meeting as item 16 in order to update the Committee on this project which is part of Urban Renewal through the Arts Program.

    4.2 MR LES ANDREWS – LES & SONIA ANDREWS CULTURAL FOUNDATION

    As this is the Year of the Veteran, Mr Andrews would like to hold a function/concert at Aotea Centre on 23 April 2006 to celebrate the day the prisoners of war were released from Stalag camps in Germany. He is seeking financial assistance from the committee.

    1. That Mr Les Andrews be thanked for his presentation seeking financial assistance for a concert to celebrate the day prisoners of war were released from Stalag camps in Germany.
    2. That the committee commends the initiative of Les & Sonia Andrews for the proposed Veterans concert and request follow-up support by the chairperson of Arts, Culture & Recreation Committee and General Manager Arts, Community and Recreation.

  6. Top AUCKLAND THEATRE COMPANY FUNDING SUBMISSION

    1. That an additional $20,000 be provided for Auckland Theatre Company (ATC) from the Arts Alive budget from 2006/07 bringing the total grant to ATC $105,000.
    2. That a three year funding agreement with an annual review be developed for Auckland Theatre Company subject to approval of the Chairperson of the Arts Culture and Recreation Committee and the General Manager, Arts Community and Recreation.
    3. That the committee notes the regional funding initiative if successful will result in increased funding for ATC and other groups.
    4. That staff report back on adequacy of current Arts budgets given no inflationary increases have occurred over past years.

    Deputy Mayor Councillor Hucker moved the following motion:

    That the committee approve Councillors Sefuiva and Walsh to accompany staff on the proposed study tour to Vancouver, London and related English cities, Germany and Valencia.

    That the memorandum of the Team Leader Recreation, dated 7 December 2005 on community use of school swimming pools be received.

  12. Top URGENT DECISION – BIC RUNGA CONCERT IN TAHAKI RESERVE

    That the urgent decision approving the Bic Runga "Birds" concert in Tahaki Reserve on 1 April 2006 be noted.

    Councillor Casey moved the following amendment by addition:

    That the Arts, Culture and Recreation Committee recommends that Auckland City develops a policy regarding the use of council reserves for commercial gain.

    That the committee recognise the efforts of Margaret Lawlor-Bartlett and other artists (Nigel Brown, Claudia Pond-Eyley, John Eaden, Vanya Lowry, Jill Carter-Hansen, John Nicol and the family of the late Pat Hanley), Barbara Holloway and Nora West, and sponsors (Karangahape Road Business Association, Watercare Services, Peace and Disarmament Education Trust, Sharp Signs, Matt Stafford, Mobil, Samson Corporation, Disruptive, The Peace Foundation and Warren Pringle) for the successful restoration and installation of the replica VAANA peace mural.
