  4. Top PUBLIC FORUM

    4.1. EMPLOYERS & MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION – BRUCE GOLDSWORTHY

    That Bruce Goldsworthy of the Auckland Employers and Manufacturers Association be thanked for his presentation to the Committee noting that the Committee looks forward to having a close working relationship to mutual benefit in the future.

    That the report of the Committee Manager dated 30 August 2005 on reports/requested pending be received.

  6. Top ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT GROUP WORK PROGRAMME 2005/06

    That appropriate timetables for reports to the Economic Development and Sustainable Business Committee be set for:

    1. an economic development strategy for Auckland City.
    2. developing a process to address the long-term issue of an international convention centre being established in Auckland City.
    3. a Creative Industries action plan.
    4. Business Precinct Plans

  7. Top INVEST AUCKLAND CBD UPDATE

    That the report of the Acting Manager Economic Development dated 22 August 2005 on the Invest Auckland CBD update report and supporting material and information be received.

  8. Top MAINSTREET EFFECTIVENESS SURVEY

    1. That the Economic Development & Sustainable Business Committee note 84% of businesses reported the same or better staffing levels, only 94% are anticipated to stay the same or improve levels in the next 12 months, only 24% reported decreased turnover in the last 12 months and only 12% anticipated a decrease in turnover in the next 12 months.
    2. That a meeting of the Mainstreet managers be held to progress issues raised in the 2005 Mainstreet Effectiveness survey.
    3. That the Manager Economic Development report to the Economic Development & Sustainable Business Committee's February 2006 meeting on options for an appropriate variation of the mainstreet governance and management structure that can be applied to emerging business precincts with a partnership with Auckland City.
    4. That an alternate survey approach, involving direct participation by the mainstreet organisations, be developed and adopted as part of the next survey.

  9. Top PROPOSED VISITS TO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT & SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS COMMITTEE

    1. That at least two visits and presentations per month be organised to the Economic Development and Sustainable Business Committee based on the proposed priorities set out in Resolution B.
    2. That subject to responses made by Committee members, visits by the organisations be prioritised as follows;

    Priority One: Chamber of Commerce; Property Council; Council of Trade Unions; Economic Development Association of NZ; Heart of the City.

    Priority Two: KPMG; Sky City; Heart Of The City; Ports Of Auckland; Ministry Of Environment; AUT Technology Park; Air NZ; Emirates; Auckland Airport.

    Priority Three: MFAT; Pacific Business Trust; Technology NZ; Fonterra; Newmarket Business Association.

    Priority Four: Sustainable Business Network; Te Puni Kokiri; Rosebank Business Association; Tamaki Campus Research Park; Auckland City events Reference Group.

    Priority Five: Vector, Telecom; Education NZ; Ministry of Tourism; NZ Rugby Union.

    Priority Six: TVNZ; Bank economists; NZQA; Eden Park Trust Board; Minister of Economic Development.

    Priority Seven: Chartered Accountant; Vodafone; The Reserve Bank; Tourism NZ; BNZ.

  10. Top TRANS-TASMAN TOWN CENTRE AND MAIN STREET CONFERENCE 2005

    That the Chairman of the Economic Development and Sustainable Business Committee, Councillor Northey and Councillors Fryer and Millar represent the Council at the 2005 Trans-Tasman Town Centre and Main Street Conference.

    CARRIED
