Reporting on the
results of the Gambling Venue Policy review, required to be undertaken within 3
years of the policy being adopted and then every 3 years, as outlined under the
Gambling Act 2003, subsections (5) and (6).
The Gambling Act
2003 gives territorial authorities limited powers in relation to gambling in
their area. The vast majority of powers remain with the Department of Internal
Affairs (DIA). Under the Gambling Act, territorial authorities are required to
have adopted a policy on class 4 venues.
Auckland City
Council adopted a Gambling Venue Policy in 2004; the policy adopted a 'sinking
lid' approach which means no new consents for class 4 venues or TAB's are now
issued within Auckland City.
Recommending that
the Public Safety and Community Order Committee endorses no change to the
current Auckland City Council gambling venue policy.
