  4. Top PUBLIC FORUM

    4.1. MOUNTAIN FOUNTAIN, AOTEA SQUARE - TERRY STRINGER

    That Mr Terry Stringer be thanked for his presentation to the Committee regarding the Mountain Fountain – Aotea Square.

    4.2. PETITION IN SUPPORT OF T STRINGER – MARGARET COPLEY-BISHOP

    Ms Margaret Copley-Bishop presented a petition to the subcommittee containing 121 signature with the following prayer:

    "We, the undersigned, strongly urge the Auckland City Council to reconsider their intention to decommission the Terry Stringer ‘Mountain Fountain' sculpture in Aotea Square.

    This sculpture is a well known much loved work that the people of Auckland must not lose."

    That Ms Margaret Copley-Bishop, representing the Mairangi Arts Centre – Gallery, be thanked for her presentation to the Committee regarding a petition in support of Terry Stringer, and the Mountain Fountain – Aotea Square.

    4.3. JEFF THOMPSON'S CONTOUR SCULPTURE – MR JOHN GOW

    This item was withdrawn.

    4.4. MOUNTAIN FOUNTAIN, AOTEA SQUARE – MAGGIE GRESSON AND ROBYN WOODWARD

    That Maggie Gresson, Artists Alliance and Robyn Woodward, Auckland University Arts History Department be thanked for their presentation to the Committee regarding the support of the Mountain Fountain – Aotea Square.

    CARRIED

    Item 7 was taken at this point.

  5. Top ARTWORK DECOMMISSION, TILE ART – QUEEN STREET AND KHARTOUM PLACE

    Photos attached to the report "Tile Art – Queen Street and Khartoum Place" were not included in the agenda and were tabled at this meeting.

    1. That the Subcommittee notes the Maungakiekie Board's resolution that the suffragette panels near Khartoum Place be retained in a prominent place and be well maintained in the future.
    2. That consultation with the artists and the possible decommissioning process for the "Tile Art – Queen Street and Khartoum Place" continues as part of the redesign of Khartoum Place and Queen Street.
    3. That the Subcommittee acknowledges the officers work in defining and clarifying the processes for decommissioning of any public artwork for report back to the Arts, Culture and Recreation Committee.

  6. Top JEFF THOMSON SCULPTURE

    That subject to the Jeff Thomson sculpture complying with identified OSH requirements, and agreement from the Sculpture on the Gulf organisers, the Committee endorses the acceptance of the sculpture as a gift to be placed on the site next to Atewhai Whenua Reserve, Waiheke Island on condition that council has the right of removal at its discretion.

  7. Top ARTWORK DECOMMISSION, MOUNTAIN FOUNTAIN AOTEA SQUARE

    1. That the temporary decommissioning process initiated for the Mountain Fountain sculpture in Aotea Square continue and include consultation with the artist and any other stakeholders regarding options for its relocation within the Aotea Quarter.
    2. That the subcommittee requests that officers investigate future options for the Mountain Fountain sculpture's relocation and recommissioning within the Aotea Quarter once remediation of the Aotea Square Underground Carpark is completed.
    3. The subcommittee acknowledges the significance of the Mountain Fountain sculpture as a gift to the people of Auckland, by the then Auckland Savings Bank and Auckland City Council.

    CARRIED

    There being no further business the Chairman declared the meeting closed at 3:04pm.
