    That the minutes of the Public Art Sub-Committee meeting held on Wednesday, 27 September 2006 be confirmed as a true and correct record.

  4. Top PUBLIC FORUM

    4.1. VALERIE THOMPSON - 'RAINBOW WARRIOR' SERIES OF PAINTINGS

    Valerie Thompson and Corinne McLaren addressed the sub-committee regarding the future of the 'Rainbow Warrior' series of paintings by artist Nelson Thompson, gifted to Auckland City in 1989 and currently stored at the Maritime Museum.

    1. That Valerie Thompson and Corinne McLaren be thanked for their presentation regarding the future of the 'Rainbow Warrior' series of paintings.
    2. That officers approach the Maritime Museum to discuss options to enable display of the 'Rainbow Warrior' series of paintings at least on an annual basis, to commemorate the event, and that this be reported back to the Public Art Sub-committee in February 2007.
    3. That officers explore possibilities for permanent location on another site which allows for greater exposure of the 'Rainbow Warrior' series of paintings, including investigation into a Nuclear Free Auckland Heritage Walk, and report back to the Public Art Sub-committee in February 2007.
    4. That the Chair write to the Member of Parliament for Auckland Central, advising the above resolutions regarding the 'Rainbow Warrior' series of paintings.

  6. Top GREY LYNN SHOPPING CENTRE KATE MILLINGTON MOSAIC

    1. That the Public Art Sub-committee accession into Council's public art collection the Kate Millington tile art mosaics, jointly funded by Samson Corporation and Council, located at 571 Great North Road.
    2. That the Chair write to the Samson Corporation thanking them for their generous corporate sponsorship of the Kate Millington tile art mosaics.
    3. That a letter of agreement with the Samson Corporation be formulated, acknowledging that Auckland City will care for and maintain the Kate Millington tile art mosaics, and outlining the responsibilities of both Samson Corporation and Auckland City in reference to Council's re-siting or removing public art works policy and guidelines.
    4. That the above resolutions A-C, and the report of the Arts Planner, dated 9 October 2006, be forwarded to the Western Bays Community Board for its information.

  7. Top JEFF THOMSON SCULPTURE WAIHEKE

    John Gow, representing the purchasers and donors of the 'Contour' sculpture, was unable to attend the meeting, and requested his email dated 15 November 2006 and letter to the Sculpture on the Gulf, dated 13 September 2006, be tabled at the meeting.

    1. That the request from the Waiheke Community Board to temporarily remove the 'Contour' sculpture from its approved location be declined, based on the prior commitment to accept this sculpture, and concerns relating to the precedent that relocation would create.
    2. That the Chair write to the donors of the 'Contour' sculpture, advising them of the Public Art Sub-committee's decision regarding the request from the Sculpture on the Gulf Committee for the temporary relocation of the 'Contour' sculpture, and formally thank them for their generous gift to the people of Waiheke and Auckland City.
    3. That the above resolutions be forwarded to the Sculpture on the Gulf Committee for their information.
    4. That the above resolution and the report of the Arts Planner, dated 9 October 2006, be forwarded to the Waiheke Community Board for its information.

  8. Top REMOVING AND RELOCATING QUEEN STREET MURAL PANELS

    1. That the Public Art Sub-committee approve the proposal to resite and install eight mural panels into the Onehunga Bay Reserve (subject to the adoption of the concept plan for this area), and four mural panels into the Church Street/Beachcroft Ave roundabout, Onehunga, with the remaining seven mural panels to be stored until sites are found.
    2. That the Public Art Sub-committee approve the disposal of the Great Spotted Kiwi and Brown Kiwi & Beetles mural panels due to extensive damage sustained in their current location rendering them unsuitable for relocation into a public space.
    3. That the report of the Arts Project Manager, dated 7 November 2006, be forwarded to the Hobson Community Board for their information.

    CARRIED

    There being no further business the Chairman declared the meeting closed at 11.15am.
