MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE  PUBLIC ART SUB-COMMITTEE HELD ON WEDNESDAY, 28 MARCH 2007 AT 3:00 PM

    That the minutes of the Public Art Sub-Committee meeting held on Wednesday, 22 November 2006 be confirmed as a true and correct record.

  3. Top EXTRAORDINARY BUSINESS

    There was no extraordinary business.

  4. Top PUBLIC FORUM

    4.1. VALERIE THOMPSON - 'RAINBOW WARRIOR' SERIES OF PAINTINGS

    That Valerie Thompson be thanked for her presentation regarding the future of the 'Rainbow Warrior' series of paintings.

  5. Top REPORTS REQUESTED/PENDING

    That the Reports Requested/Pending report of the Democracy Advisor (Acting) dated 22 March 2007 be received.

  6. Top RAINBOW WARRIOR PAINTINGS

    1. That the Rainbow Warrior paintings remain at the Maritime Museum for viewing and for study.
    2. That the Public Art Sub-committee strongly recommend officers continue discussions with the Maritime Museum and the Auckland Heritage Festival on the proposal to include the Rainbow Warrior paintings as part of an annual waterfront heritage walk and report back to the subcommittee on progress.
    3. That the Chair, Public Art Sub-committee, provide an update to the Member of Parliament for Auckland Central and include the sub-committee resolutions.
    4. That the Public Art Sub-committee supports the inclusion of the Rainbow Warrior paintings in the waterfront heritage walk as a reminder of the significance of New Zealand's nuclear-free stance.

  7. Top AUCKLAND DOMAIN - RAF BOMBER COMMAND MEMORIAL

    1. That officers continue to work with representatives from the Royal Air Force Bomber Command Association New Zealand, Auckland Museum, the Returned Services Association and other armed services groups to progress an integrated concept design aligned to the draft War Memorial Museum and Cenotaph Masterplan.
    2. That officers initiate dialogue with artist Stanley Palmer on concepts that could incorporate RAF Bomber Command and other armed services memorials within the landscape elements of the Cenotaph area.
    3. That the above resolutions be forwarded to the Hobson Community Board.
    4. That the above resolutions be forwarded to the Arts, Culture and Recreation Committee.

  8. Top QUEEN STREET UPGRADE -- ARTWORKS

    1. That the historic foreshore sculpture 'Taurapa' (Stage 2 Victoria to Custom Streets) as proposed by artist Fred Graham be progressed from detailed design to build and installation.
    2. That the above resolutions and report by the Arts Project Manager be forwarded to the Hobson Community Board.

    CARRIED

    There being no further business the Chairman declared the meeting closed at 3:45 pm.
