Transit New Zealand (Transit) has invited Auckland City Council to make a submission on their draft 2007/2008 land transport programme (LTP) and 10-year financial forecast. Transit's draft LTP is, with minor exceptions the same as Transit's 10 year State Highway Plan and Forecast for 2006/07 to 2015/16, published in June 2006.

The transport targeted rate was introduced in 2005 as a means to enable the Council to accelerate its transport programme through providing guaranteed capital funding for new transport capital projects. The targeted rate has allowed Auckland City to develop and deliver with financial surety a large number of projects that contribute to Auckland City's transport strategy, Connecting People and Places.
