7. LAND ALLOCATION FOR A RESOURCE RECOVERY PARK FOR THE ISTHMUS
|
Lindsay du Preez |
|
|
Waste Education Officer |
17 January 2006 |
Advising that
Auckland City residents and businesses send 380,000 tonnes of waste to land fill
each year. A Resource Recovery Park (RRP) allows for the diversion of materials
and is instrumental in moving the community from a culture of discarding waste
to where waste is seen as a resource. A potentially suitable site for Auckland
City's RRP has been identified on council owned land in Onehunga, off Galway
Street.
Recommending the
committee endorse a freeze on any long term lease or sale of the site and that
officers report back to the committee on the options for its use as a Resource
Recovery Park.
