CHAIRMANS REPORT
The Chairman gave a verbal report noting the following:
Attended a few CAYAD meetings lately. Loiuse, Aritra and Melanie have
also been helping out. They are planning an event that will take place
during Youth Week, May 2-9. Shortland Street stars who play Tama and
Shannon Street will be invited to ‘front' the event.
Attended Youth Law on 16 February 2005. Day to day running of Youth Law
and budgets were discussed. She is finding out how youth law works with
young people.
Attended Symphony under the Stars and assisted with collecting money
for Kids First.
Has been accepted into Law at Auckland University.
Attended ACYC training camp.
ANZAC Day Pamela will coordinate the ACYC involvement in this event
and asked for volunteers.
Annual Plan the submission period will be from 20 April to 20- May
2005. The youth forum is to be held on 9 May 2005, 5-6.30pm. Pamela
requested that everyone talk to five young people and come back to the
next meeting with their views on the annual plan. It was suggested tht the
rFinance committee Manager give a presentation on the Annual Plan to the
March ACYC meeting.

MEMBER'S UPDATE
Samson Tonga:
Samson was in Tonga over the holidays. He found the youth in Tonga were
different in the way they did things. He encouraged other members to visit
Tonga.
Sinovita Tonga:
Sinovita also visited Tonga. The elections were on during her visit.
She found that process to be very interesting. She will be attending
Auckland University studying for a degree in Health Sciences.
Natasha Sarker:
Natasha had nothing to report.
Jayran Mansouri:
Jayran is applying to become a librarian at her school.
Pelema Taulapapa:
Pelema resigned from his job after attending training camp and has been
on holiday.
He advised he had attended a number of project meetings.
Has been involved in a meeting with the Ministry for Pacific Island
affairs.
Aritra Ray:
Aritra attended training camp.
Enrolled at Auckland University to study for a degree in Biomedical
Sciences.
Has been contacted by TVNZ regarding the scholarship exams he passed.
Melanie Cripps:
Melanie thought the camp was the highlight of her holiday.
Attended Parachute.
Has been working full time.
Attended a team planning meeting for Introducing God at the Baptist
Tabernacle.
Has changed her degree from Planning to a bachelor in Applied Theology.
Requested that members email her updates for the website in a timely
manner. She will send out a monthly reminder.
Josephine Fok:
Went to Hong Kong during the holidays to visit family.
Took a missionary trip to Perth, Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City with
young Chinese Catholic people from all around the world where they put on
evangelical concerts.
Attended the ACYC training camp and Parachute.
Has started a bible study group at her church.
Will be attending university this year studying law.
Louise Phyn:
Louise attended Parachute with her church youth group and 40-50 people
from other youth groups.
Went to Matapouri Bay with her family.
Attended two youthline training sessions, listening to phone calls. Is
continuing training to become a counsellor.
John Osborne:
John has been busy with his lodges.
A highlight was the Onehunga Lodge donating quite a bit of money to
child cancer foundation.
Simon Dennerly:
Simon has been attending project meetings.
He has some contract work coming up.
Sam Beanland:
Sam has had an interview to be a university guide and attended the
training for this role which was held on Rangitoto. He is excited about
being a mentor for new students.
He is studying commerce this year.
Dexter Henderson:
Dexter went to Rotorua for Christmas with the family.
Now back at school.
Marcel Correa:
Marcel is in the 7th form at Sacred Heart College where he is a
prefect. He has also been elected Chair of the student council.
During the holidays he visited his brother at the University of
California at Berkeley in San Francisco. He noticed a lot more poverty and
homeless people on the streets of San Francisco than in New Zealand.
Chantell Nelisi:
Chantell has been busy working at two jobs morning at a rest home and
afternoons at the copy centre.
Fay Nelisi:
Fay has been working at the copy centre binding University course
books.
Members were reminded to ensure that their profiles and pictures were
forwarded to Steve or Melanie for inclusion on the web site. New members
were urged to prepare a profile and provide a photograph so they can be
added to the web site. If there are problems with writing a profile,
contact Steve for assistance.

UPDATE ON 21ST ANNIVERSARY AWARDS
Aritra tabled a paper outlining progress regarding the event, a revised
budget and a draft programme.

Aritra advised that a barbershop quartet have agreed to perform at
the awards ceremony for free, but have requested that their name appear
on the programme.
Louise has left a message with the teacher in charge of the Korean
Group and will be following this up.
Pelema is trying to get Nesian Mystik to perform for free. He is
awaiting a quote for bunches of flax flowers for each award recipient,
and 2 large bouquets for the stage.
Samson and Sinovita will check the availability of the Tongan group.
Melanie advised that the frames for the certificates will cost
between $8-15 each.
There will be two press releases regarding the award ceremony and
recipients.

- That the Award Project Team be thanked for their hard work in
the selection of the final 11 award recipients, and for the progress
in the organisation of the awards ceremony.
- That given that the award ceremony will be held before the next
scheduled Youth Council meeting, the Awards Project team be delegated
the authority to make decisions in relation to the Awards ceremony.
