  6. Top ANNUAL PLAN

    Gaylene Harvey, Finance and Corporate Business Committee Manager, addressed the Youth Council members regarding the 2005/2006 Draft Annual Plan.

    1. That the Finance and Corporate Business Committee Manager be thanked for her presentation regarding the 2005/2006 draft Annual Plan.
    2. That Pelema Taulapapa, Louise Phyn, Aritra Ray, Melanie Cripps, Simon Dennerley, Sophia Johnson and Pamela Mills be appointed to the panel to prepare the Auckland City Youth Council submission to the 2005/06 Draft Annual Plan.
    3. That it be noted the Youth Annual Plan Stakeholder Forum has been scheduled for Monday, 9 May 2005 from 5pm to 6.30pm in the Council Chambers.

  7. Top COMMUNITY ACTION ON YOUTH AND DRUGS

    Shirley Allan, Community Facilitator CAYADS, was in attendance and outlined details of the event proposed to redefine perceptions of drug and alcohol culture with youth. The event will be held in Youth Week 9-15 May on Friday 13 May 2005 at TAPAC, Motions Road, Western Springs.

    • Attended medical camp (orientation)

    • Elected deputy house captain at school
    • Has become a student leader
    • Is organising a writing competition for the school writing group and trying to find prizes
    • Held an inter-house flower sculpture competition
    • Entered a speech competition
    • The Auckland Bahai Association is having a racial unity forum. Contact Guanting if interested in attending.

    • Tutoring at homework centre at Wesley Intermediate
    • University is fun

    • Took part in round the bays fun run
    • Her bible class is doing a walkathon to St Heliers on Saturday.

    • His group came third overall in the Polyfest on Friday.

    • Marj Mulholland offered to give the Youth Council tutoring in public speaking.

    • Is a prefect at her school
    • Is organising a concert at school fundraising for Canteen
    • Has attended 7th form camp
    • Has been looking after her nana
    • Hasn't been well.

    Aritra Ray

    • Moved house over the weekend.

    Pelema Taulapapa

    • Is staying with his grandparents at present as they are unwell
    • Awards team to have a meeting to wrap up
    • Has been doing research for the awards. Tabled a paper regarding the Jason Snell Memorial Youth Awards which he discovered when researching the Youth Council. Pelema noted the 21st Anniversary Awards and the Jason Snell Awards had a great deal of similarity in terms of timeframes and the awards given to the recipients.     • Pelema thanked everyone who helped at the Awards evening and gave a special thank you to Pamela and Melanie for hosting the event so well.

  10. Top ADVISORS UPDATE

    Steve Peterson, Community Adviser Youth, tabled information regarding various upcoming seminars, events and conferences. He reminded members that if they were interested in attending they must provide a couple of paragraphs on why they should be attending and what benefit there would be to the Youth Council.

  11. Top ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN AND DEPUTY CHAIRMAN

    The Chairman vacated the chair and the Committee Manager took over the chair to oversee the election of a chairman. Cr L Boyle acted as scrutineer. Nominations were called for the position of chairman. Three nominations were received. Voting was undertaken by secret ballot.

    The meeting was adjourned at 6.14pm to allow counting of the votes and reconvened at 6.17pm.

    1. That Pelema Taulapapa be declared the Chairman.

      Pelema Taulapapa assumed the chair and thanked Pamela Mills for her work over the past year.

      Nominations were called for the position of Deputy Chairperson. Four nominations were received. Voting was undertaken by secret ballot.

      The meeting adjourned at 6.28pm to allow counting of votes and reconvened at 6.31pm.

      A further secret ballot was held as the two top polling nominees were tied.

      The meeting adjourned at 6.35pm to allow counting of votes and reconvened at 6.31pm.

    2. That Louise Phyn be declared the Deputy Chairman.

    3. That the ballots be destroyed.

  12. Top AT THE CROSSROADS: THE UNITED NATIONS IN THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY

  13. Top THE 2005 YOUTH LEADERSHIP CONVENTION

  14. Top ANZAC DAY

    Aritra Ray and Pamela Mills gave a verbal update on the ANZAC Day Project. The team requested Youth Council members to email any ideas they may have to publicise ANZAC Day to youth. Members were reminded Poppy Day is Friday 22 April 2005. There will be three lots of three hour shifts. If anyone is interested in helping please contact Pamela.

    Reminder to members: the ANZAC Day dawn parade is at 5am on 25 April 2005. The project team also wanted to ensure there was a youth perspective on the wreath. There was another idea floated where youth could email their thoughts on ANZAC Day and what it means to them.

    That the verbal report of the ANZAC Day Project Team on the Youth Council's participation in the ANZAC Day commemorations be received.
