  4. Top PUBLIC FORUM

    4.1. UNTOUCHED WORLD YOUTH SUSTAINABILITY PROJECT – BRIDGET GLASGOW

    Ms Bridget Glasgow from the University of Auckland, gave an oral presentation regarding a proposed pilot scheme, Untouched World Youth Sustainability Project, in which seven schools across the Auckland region will be selecting two students from each school to participate. The students will stay in Youthtown and work on a real project with the Council officers. The intention is for these young people to go back into their schools and communities to bring up new projects.

    That Ms Bridget Glasgow, University of Auckland be thanked for her presentation in relation to the upcoming Untouched World Youth Sustainability Project.

    4.2. DIGITAL EARTH

    Councillor Richard Simpson gave a PowerPoint presentation on the Digital Earth Summit on Sustainability being held in Auckland on 9-12 April 2006. The Digital Earth Summit will look at ways digital information on the earth can be collected, collated and make accessible to anyone. The Digital Earth Summit is a pre-cursor to a full symposium proposed in 2007.

    Councillor Simpson wished to raise awareness of the Summit and asked whether Youth Council members would be interested in attending. Councillor Simpson undertook to forward further information to the Youth Council as it came to hand, eg: costs of attendance, keynote speakers, programme.

    4.3 Raise up and represent youth development programme – Julie Radford-Poupard

    Julie Radford-Pouphard from Youthtown gave an oral presentation regarding the "Raise up and Represent" programme currently being considered by Council in its Annual Plan.

    4.4 RANGATAHI DEBATING FORUM – georgina parata

    Georgina Parata, Senior Analyst: Maori Policy Strategy and Development, Waitakere City Council, tabled an invitation for the Youth Council to attendance/participate in a rangatahi debating forum being hosted by the Waitakere City Council Maori Youth Council in association with Te Ropu Wahine Maori Toko I te Ora o Tamaki Makaurau.

  6. Top CHAIRMAN'S REPORT

    1. That the Chairman's report dated 1 May 2005 be received.
    2. That a project team of Pelema Taulapapa, Guanting Liu and Chantel Nelisi be assigned to look after the affairs of the official Auckland City Youth Council website.

  7. Top MEMBERS' UPDATES

    Members updates were received in time for inclusion in the agenda from Louise Phyn, Aritra Ray, Melanie Cripps and Sam Beanland.

    Sam Beanland wished to add that Auckland University had opened an outreach programme to match volunteers with opportunities.

    Further written updates were received from Pamela Mills and
    Guanting Liu.

    John Osborne gave an oral update advising that he had attended the Converse '05 event and will be attending a youth Buffalo Lodge tournament in Taumarunui.

  8. Top COMMUNITY ADVISOR'S UPDATE

    1. That the Community Advisor's update report dated May 2005 be received.
    2. That Fay Nelisi, Pelema Taulapapa and Samson Tonga work with the Community Advisor on continuing the development of an Auckland City Youth Council logo.

  9. Top DRAFT CHILD AND FAMILY POLICY

    Stephanie Jowett, Community Planner Youth, updated the Youth Council members on the consultation process undertaken to date in developing the Draft Child and Family Policy. Stephanie advised the Draft Child and Family Policy was released for public comment on Monday, 16 May 2005. The submission period closes on 20 June 2005. Stephanie invited the Youth Council to make a submission if they wished either as a group or as an individual.

    1. That the verbal report of the Community and Social Policy Planner on the draft Child and Family Policy be received.
    2. That Sam Beanland, Pamela Mills, Melanie Cripps, Pelema Taulapapa and Louise Phyn formulate a submission on the Growing Up Together Policy for the June Youth Council meeting.

    10.1. DRAFT ANNUAL PLAN

    1. That Pelema Taulapapa, Sam Beanland, Aritra Ray, Melanie Cripps, Pamela Mills and Louise Phyn be delegated authority to complete the final wording of the submission to the Draft Annual Plan 2005/2006.
    2. That a copy of the final submission be circulated to members with the minutes of the meeting.

    10.2. AUCKLAND CITY YOUTH COUNCIL EXECUTIVE

    The Chairperson reported that a further meeting was proposed to discuss the development of an Auckland City Youth Council Executive from which a written report will be provided to the Youth Council meeting.

    That the oral report from the Chairperson regarding the Auckland City Youth Council Executive be received.
