MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE AUCKLAND CITY YOUTH COUNCIL HELD ON MONDAY, 20 AUGUST 2007 AT 4:30PM

1. APOLOGIES

   Moved: Guanting Liu / Clara Kim

   That the apologies from Seraphina Kim and Harriet Spratt for non-attendance be accepted.

2. CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES

   Moved: Guanting Liu / Kate Boersen

   That the minutes of the Auckland City Youth Council meeting held on Monday, 16 July 2007 be confirmed as a true and correct record.

   CARRIED

3. EXTRAORDINARY BUSINESS

   There was no extraordinary business.

4. PUBLIC FORUM

   4.1. JAN ZIEGLER-PERI - KIDSVOTING

   This item was withdrawn.

5. COMMUNITY ADVISORS UPDATE

   The Community Advisor advised the Auckland City Youth Council with the new Auckland City Youth Council bebo page, www.bebo.com/akcityyouth, for their information.

   Moved: Guanting Liu / Clara Kim

   That the report of the Community Advisor, dated 13 August 2007, be received.

   CARRIED

6. 'COCKTAILS WITH CANDIDATES' FORUM - PROJECT UPDATE

   The Community Advisor advised the Auckland City Youth Council on the progress of the 'Cocktails with Candidates' forum, and requested that an Auckland City Youth Council spokesperson be delegated to attend future planning meetings with Auckland City Council and the Auckland University Students Association (AUSA).

   Moved: Guanting Liu / Kate Boersen

   1. That the written and verbal update of the Community Advisor and the Democracy Coordinator regarding the 'Cocktails with Candidates' forum, be received.
   2. That Guanting Liu be delegated as the Auckland City Youth Council spokesperson at the 'Cocktails with Candidates' forum, a partnership event between Auckland City Youth Council, Auckland City Council and the Auckland University Students Association (AUSA).

   CARRIED

7. CHAIRPERSON'S UPDATE

   The Chairperson advised the Auckland City Youth Council that she attended the Mayoral Civic Service for Schools, held 14 August 2007, and provided the Auckland City Youth Council with photos from the event for their information. The Chairperson also advised on the recent 'Police Act Review' which was undertaken by the New Zealand Police.

   1. That the update from the Chairperson be received.
   2. That a representative from the New Zealand Police be invited to attend the September meeting of the Auckland City Youth Council to update the Youth Council on the recent 'Police Act Review'.

8. MEMBERS' UPDATES

   Further verbal updates were received as follows:

   1. Jayran Mansouri

      Advised that she attended the Young Peoples Reference Group meeting in Wellington that focused on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

   2. Dexter Henderson

      Advised that he attended ski camp

      Advised that there will be another Urban Unity event in September and will update the Auckland City Youth Council on more details once they have been confirmed.

   3. Kate Boersen

      Advised that she will be competing in the upcoming New Zealand Secondary Schools Individual Cycling Championships in Mt Wellington.

   That the members updates, verbal and written, be received.

   There being no further business the Chairman declared the meeting closed at 5.24 pm.
