    The path to distinction

Gary Paykel has devoted his life to building the global appliance and healthcare companies that bear his family name, while behind the scenes has changed innumerable lives through his charitable work.

He joined Fisher & Paykel as an 18 year-old in 1960, working his way from assembly line to sales director to company director in 1979 and then Chief Executive in 1989.

He has been Chairman of both Fisher & Paykel Appliances and Fisher & Paykel Healthcare since the two iconic companies separated in 2001.

Gary Paykel proved it was possible to create a great New Zealand brand based on innovation and quality and then take it to the world. He took these same philosophies to yachting as Chairman of Team New Zealand.

Patron of the Eastern Bays Hospice, he is also Trustee of the Maurice & Phyllis Paykel Trust, in memory of his parents, dedicated to the advancement of the health sciences in New Zealand.

Gary Paykel was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2001.
